Perhaps you're not familiar with Brunus edwardii (Species nova) by its Latin name. All the more reason to have this delightful spoof on scientific papers which describes the "diseases" which can affect teddy bears. This is the first American edition of a delightful work, printed for us by The Whittington Press, the superb British firm at Andoversford, Gloucestershire, on beautiful Strathmore stock. It is 9 x 6 1/2 inches in size, four pages in a printed cover and -- unlike the British editions -- is sold with an envelope of matching stock to permit its presentation or mailing as a keepsake. The text consists of Introduction, Materials and Methods (Source of material for survey and Examination Technique), Results of the Survey and Discussion. It is summarized as follows: "The correct specific and generic terminology for Brunus edwardii is discussed, and the results given of a survey involving 1,599 complete specimens and 539 miscellaneous appendages. These results indicate that primary infectious agents do not occur, and that the species is safe for children to handle. Suggestions as to the future role of the (veterinary) profession in relation to this species are made." Marvelous line drawings illustrate four of the six cases discussed: "Torticollis and loss of limb", "Alopecia, discoloration (very loved)", "Lopsided squint" and "Attic bear and mice".There is also a drawing illustrating "A case of emotional disturbance, hypertension" which appears on the front cover and envelope as well. Among the references cited are A.A. Milne's "When we were very young" and "The house at Pooh Corner." Oh, did we mention that this gem was reprinted with permission of The Veterinary Record? |
